when billy and i were contemplating beginning the process of becoming a family larger than two....i would see little babies and want one....not one to feed...or to change or wake up with in the night....no i just wanted one....like you want an ipod....or a new purse....i wanted a little accessory that would laugh and smile and i could dress up in the cutest little outfits and take for a walk in a cute little stroller....ya materialistic...i know....but that's how i saw it....and i honestly thought nothing of it....
then after a little while we started to say to ourselves "are we ready for that?" ...for those sleepless nights and crying little sounds, for the sudden lack of freedom that will occur....and we would say, "we can do it!"... it will be hard but we can do it....
so you might be confused at this point in time because i just went from talking about my soon to be newborn as an accessory and then to admitting that i thought about the hard parts right!? ya, here is mother nature's little trick....she prepares you slowly at first....i wanted an accessory....then i wanted a baby....i didn't look past the accessory part until we were trying....then i wanted a baby....and now here i am almost 6 months along and it has just barely dawned on me that what we asked for was not an accessory....not just a baby....but a lifetime....our lifetimes....and here we are with this little one on the way and i am just barely realizing that i have to raise this little accessory of mine!!! not just in its baby stages but all the way through....i'll have to discipline and fight with and set ground rules and worry about this little thing i thought i could just snuggle and hold for all eternity....on the first day i realized this i had a slight panic attack....i went to billy and i told him...."i thought i ordered an accessory!!!" and he just proceeded to laugh....
now i have come to the conclusion that yes...i will have to raise my accessory....yes, i will have to argue and discipline and cry with my accessory....but i am going to take this one day at a time....and enjoy my little accessory as much as i possibly can....because well, it's going to have to last me a lifetime and beyond....
and so maybe i am the only one in the whole world who felt this way....and maybe this sounds absolutely horrible to some of you....but that is how mother nature played her little trick on me....only now i have realized it wasn't really a trick....it's really a blessing that i wouldn't have had the courage to ask for if i had seen it any other way....

those of you who know billy at all know that he can't get enough of politics/philosophy...and well i'm rather political myself so of course we would choose a child's version of ayn rand's atlas shrugged to help bring our child into the world of reading...
of course i threw a fit....and told him i'm not that pregnant yet....but he made me anyway!....i'm wondering now who is reaping the benefits of this situation....don't get me wrong...in the dead of winter i will love this little advantage...but until then...really? really....

we still have a lot of work to do...the garden will be planted next year and the pavers hopefully will be finished before the winter...but it just looked so nice out there tonight we couldn't help but enjoy a little bit of home cookin'....
pictures of our new space in the back will be posted soon!

oh and another fun update! i started feeling our little guy kick! it's been quite fun and i still have to question every time i feel it but i think i am starting to recognize it more and more! i am also feeling much better these days as far as being sick goes which is definitely very nice! so besides the aches and pains here and there and the occasional dizzy spell i am really starting to enjoy being pregnant...horray!!!!

doesn't he just look so content!? almost like he has his hands stretched back behind his head haha...oh our little man! our next ultrasound is in 4 weeks! we will be 20 weeks by then and it should be a good one! and we will get the gender confirmation from our doctor...not that it isn't obvious but hey i guess stranger things have happened! yay for little boys!

so with all of the new changes happening in our household...billy and i had to make a choice about a very special someone....lyric....baby is coming....and the poo is still just a baby herself....billy and i have family in far away lands ;) and travel a bit to see them quite regularly...but with no suv and just a small backseat lyric and baby wouldn't be traveling anywhere together....lyric liked to sneak things off of the counter....and she worried mom that baby might get its food kidnapped off a high chair when she turned around....lyric had no space awareness....if you were on the ground/bed you got trampled....it didn't matter what you did or said...she just didn't get that her feet hurt when they were on top of your face....mom worried that lyric might not get it with the baby hanging around on the floor or nursing in bed....lyric was still a puppy and needed a lot of attention....baby is well our baby and will get all of our attention....worries aside...this was probably one of the hardest decisions i have ever had to make....and i still have to stop from crying every time i think about the situation....but deep down i know it was for the best.

billy and i feel so blessed and humbled and absolutely can't wait until next month when we find out if it's going to be a little me or a little him! :) we shall see!
